This operation was a massive attack by the Allied airborne troops, whose task was to capture the key bridges of the area, while the 30th Corps of the British Army was to reinforce their position by marching along Highway 69. However, the protracted process of clearing the territory from the north of Belgium to the Dutch Nijmegen forced the British 1st Airborne Division to hold Arnhem alone for longer than planned. The failure of the reunification of the 30th Corps and the airborne forces led to the fact that the last, seventh bridge at Arnhem was lost to the Allies.
